This Weekly Habit Changed My Business FOREVER
- Entrepreneurs struggle to make consistent progress due to lack of weekly planning.
- A 15-minute weekly planning session can transform a business.
- The session involves an audit (reviewing the past week) and a planning session (planning the coming week).
- The audit includes answering four questions: What went well? What didn't get done? What was not liked? What wins were achieved?
- The planning session involves: identifying the one thing to focus on, listing what's set in stone, and scheduling everything accordingly.

0:00 how is it that some entrepreneurs make 0:01 consistent progress toward their goals 0:04 month over month with ease while some 0:06 set goals and forget about them 2 weeks 0:08 later well it's all down to this one 0:10 habit that takes less than 15 minutes a 0:12 week and when I first started doing it a 0:14 few years ago it completely changed my 0:16 business forever it hasn't just worked 0:19 for me it's worked for every single one 0:21 of my clients at selfmastery.pl 0:30 progress toward your business goals so 0:32 what is the Habit well I'm going to be 0:35 honest it's actually not anything 0:36 revolutionary you'll have heard of this 0:38 habit before but I can guarantee you two 0:41 things one that you don't do it and two 0:44 the way you've done it in the past has 0:46 been wrong or over complicated and 0:48 that's why you've never actually stuck 0:50 to it or seen benefits from it and if 0:52 you want to actually make progress week 0:54 on week so that your business is growing 0:56 and you're actually enjoying your life a 0:58 bit more this is crucial because this is 1:00 exactly how you change what's bad and 1:02 keep what's good but to explain just how 1:05 important the Habit is I want to tell 1:07 you about back in the day when I used to 1:09 compete in weightlifting so I used to 1:12 compete in this sport of weightlifting 1:13 where you do a snatch and a cleaning 1:15 jerk I wanton a British weightlifting 1:16 Championship a ton of Northern Irish 1:19 championships hell ofy records all the 1:21 rest right so I would hang around with 1:23 some of the best weightlifters and 1:25 strongest people in the whole of the UK 1:28 and Northern Ireland and there were two 1:29 things that we all did one we followed a 1:32 training program so you know we weren't 1:33 just walking into the gym and randomly 1:35 doing whatever we wanted no that is a 1:37 oneway ticket to not only making zero 1:40 progress but in a strength sport where 1:42 your CNS is getting battered from the 1:44 load you lift it's a one-way ticket to 1:46 breaking your body down so everyone had 1:48 a set program to follow where you gohe 1:51 and you do this LIF for this amount of 1:53 WS for this many sets at this WID and 1:56 over the weeks by following the program 1:58 your Technique improved you could 2:00 stronger and you could lift heavier wids 2:02 the second thing we did was Auto 2:04 regulate so if you're a natural lifter I 2:06 you're not on steroids which you know 2:09 complete side point but there's 2:10 absolutely nothing wrong with doing 2:11 steroids if you know what you're doing 2:14 you get your blood work done etc etc but 2:16 if you are natural your recovery index 2:18 ability to recover is actually pretty 2:20 low especially in a strength sport where 2:22 fatigue is much more likely to build up 2:25 you shouldn't really be training more 2:26 than 5 days a week which gives you two 2:28 rest days every week night the best 2:30 lifter I know Auto regulate these rest 2:32 days and what that pretty much means is 2:34 they listen to their body they take the 2:36 rest day when they feel like they need 2:38 it so some weeks you might train 5 days 2:40 in a row then take two days off some 2:42 weeks you might train three days on one 2:44 day off two days on one day off or 2:46 whatever it is all based on how you feel 2:49 this way you were essentially each week 2:51 adapting and adjusting to maximize and 2:53 optimize your current situation now the 2:56 Habit you need to do every week to 2:57 change your business forever is not 2:59 working out although you know obviously 3:01 you should be doing that but it does 3:03 follow the same two points and it's a 3:05 weekly planning session oh I know how 3:08 revolutionary Ross amazing how could you 3:10 ever come up with something so 3:11 gamechanging but Jokes Aside seriously 3:14 if you don't do a weekly review a weekly 3:16 planning session you're like the 3:18 countless weightlifters I know who never 3:20 followed a program and therefore never 3:21 made progress and never adapted to their 3:24 situation and hence completely burned 3:25 out but if you do do it you're going to 3:27 be doing something that every sing Le 3:30 Elite entrepreneur on the planet does 3:32 there is not a single one of them that 3:34 doesn't review their past week and plan 3:36 their coming week and so right now I'm 3:38 going to show you the two parts to doing 3:40 a weekly planning session that I use 3:42 with my clients to make INE progress and 3:44 maintain high levels of productivity so 3:46 you can finally start to see results 3:48 faster and the first part is what I call 3:51 the audit this is where you look back 3:52 and review your past week but there's a 3:54 very specific way you have to do this if 3:56 you want it to actually work I'm going 3:58 to give you the framework for right now 4:00 but first I do recommend doing this on a 4:02 Sunday evening as I think that just 4:04 makes you know the most logical sense 4:05 for when to do a weekly review but of 4:07 course you can do it whenever you want 4:09 to do it and these questions which are 4:11 included in the framework are obviously 4:13 generalized because you know this is a 4:15 YouTube video I can't give you specific 4:16 advice in a pre-recorded video so please 4:19 feel free to adapt these to your 4:20 specific situation but do do maintain 4:23 the general direction of the question 4:25 because they're not there for no reason 4:28 and really with this audit we only have 4:29 have four questions so you want to get 4:32 out a notebook to answer these and think 4:34 through them purposefully and you also 4:36 might want to get out your calendar for 4:37 your past week so you can look back on 4:39 it and refer to it when answering the 4:41 questions and the first question is this 4:44 what went well and should be repeated 4:46 it's as simple as that right what went 4:47 well why did it go well maybe you had a 4:50 seals call that went really well because 4:51 you prepared a lot for it or maybe you 4:53 had a piece of content that went viral 4:55 because you put extra effort into the 4:57 hook or maybe you had a general feeling 4:59 of productivity and usefulness over the 5:01 week because you decided to frontload 5:04 your days with your hardest tasks 5:06 whatever it is right the main thing is 5:07 that you identify what you liked about 5:09 last week this way you can do it again 5:11 next week question two what did not get 5:14 done I often find when my clients come 5:16 to me that there's always a few tasks 5:18 that they never get completed on their 5:19 to-do list and they just you know keep 5:21 putting it off to tomorrow and you know 5:22 the next thing it's Sunday the entire 5:24 week is passed and the task is still 5:26 isn't done but here is the funny thing 5:28 about this right I find with both myself 5:30 and my clients more often than not you 5:33 know if I put a task off for free days 5:35 so if you know on Monday I going to do 5:37 it on Tuesday and then on Tuesday I say 5:39 I'm going to do it on Wednesday that 5:41 task more often than not doesn't 5:43 actually need done it is some pointless 5:45 task that I've added for no reason that 5:48 you know sure it might add some benefit 5:50 but it's not a lever moving task it's 5:52 not actually important and my business 5:54 would still grow if I doing it so when 5:56 you're asking yourself what didn't get 5:58 done and you've written out the list of 5:59 all the things you did and complete ask 6:02 yourself another question here does this 6:04 really need done or can I forget about 6:06 it most of the time you'll find what you 6:08 put off is actually just a pointless 6:10 task that you can't forget about but if 6:12 it is a task that needs done you need to 6:15 make it your priority on Monday to just 6:17 get it done and dusted so that you can 6:19 close that Loop question three what did 6:22 you not like about last week no you 6:24 might find there's no answer here you 6:25 might have actually enjoyed everything 6:27 you did last week and that's great but 6:29 maybe didn't like that you had to do a 6:30 team call at 11:00 a.m. and so now you 6:33 can make a rule that you don't take any 6:35 team calls or any calls at all before 6:37 lunch or maybe you didn't like that you 6:39 lay in bed wondering if this is all 6:40 going to work out and now you know you 6:42 need to massively build up your own 6:44 self-belief and confidence the idea with 6:46 this question is to Simply identify what 6:48 you didn't like about your week so that 6:50 you can change it because there's zero 6:51 point in doing things that worsen your 6:54 life question four what wins did you 6:56 have this is probably one of the most 6:58 impactful question question that you can 7:00 ask because often we don't realize we 7:02 did have any wins and so if you don't 7:04 sit down to reflect on them you'll just 7:06 keep going through the weeks thinking 7:07 you're not making any progress simply 7:10 because you're not looking for the 7:12 progress and these wins can be anything 7:14 big or small actually with my clients I 7:17 get them to fill out a weekly wins form 7:18 every week both for my purposes to see 7:21 how they're getting along and also for 7:22 their own purposes for this very reason 7:25 I once had a client whose win one week 7:27 was that he signed a million dooll dat 7:30 but the week before it was that he had a 7:31 consistent sleep schedule and turn felt 7:34 much higher energy so your wins can be 7:36 anything the main thing is that you're 7:38 identifying them and stacking them and 7:41 actually on that last point this will in 7:42 turn massively boost your confidence and 7:44 self-belief now doing the review is all 7:47 well and good okay it's brilliant and 7:49 you need to do it cuz you need to 7:50 reflect to you cannot make a change if 7:52 you do not identify what needs changed 7:54 this review this audit is how you 7:56 identify what needs changed but if you 7:58 do not come combine it with this second 8:00 part the planning session it is quite 8:02 literally pointless because this is how 8:04 you implement the things you learned 8:06 from the review to make better and 8:07 faster progress part one identifies what 8:10 needs changed part two is the act of 8:12 changing it and again this is really 8:15 simple but all the best things are if 8:17 you over complicated you won't stick to 8:18 it you won't get results so I like to 8:20 keep it simple and there's only three 8:22 steps to this the first is a question 8:24 you have to ask yourself and that 8:26 question is what is the one thing you 8:28 need to focus on this week to move your 8:30 business forward whatever this thing is 8:32 whether it is finishing building out a 8:34 landing page hiring a new team member 8:36 fixing a certain bottleneck or changing 8:38 how you schedule your day that is the 8:40 most important thing you can do this 8:42 week so have that as a priority and 8:44 focus on it because if you do it you 8:46 will move your business forward the 8:48 second step is what is set in stone so 8:51 every week you know you live a life 8:53 obviously you also run a business so 8:55 there's going to be a few things which 8:56 are just s and stone and can't really be 8:59 moved whether it is calls appointments 9:02 dinner with your partner or taking the 9:03 kids to school etc etc whatever it is it 9:06 is crucial to get clear on what these 9:08 things are so you can do the third step 9:10 correctly because the third step is 9:12 scheduling now I've made entire videos 9:15 on how I recommend scheduling your days 9:17 and weeks for Peak mental performance 9:19 and productivity so I'll not go too deep 9:21 into it in this video and I'll link that 9:23 video at the end if you want to check it 9:25 out but there is a few things you need 9:27 to do when scheduling no matter or how 9:29 you choose to schedule the first thing 9:31 you need to do is schedule that which is 9:33 set in stone so all those things you 9:36 identified in step two which are setting 9:37 Stone you know your appointments your 9:39 calls etc etc schedule them because this 9:42 creates the sort of skeleton framework 9:44 for your week that you can then build 9:46 around the next thing is to look at your 9:48 answers from the review what did you 9:50 like about last week what went well 9:52 whatever it is when you're scheduling 9:54 try to replicate it as much as possible 9:57 what did you not like about last week 9:59 whatever it is when you're scheduling 10:01 try to change it as much as possible 10:04 what did not get done last week that 10:06 needs done whatever it is schedule it as 10:08 a priority which as a rule of Thun if 10:11 you're making something a priority you 10:13 schedule it earliest in the day and 10:14 earliest in the week so you would do it 10:16 at you know 6:00 a.m. Monday morning get 10:18 it done and dusted out of the way you 10:21 close that Loop you don't have to worry 10:22 about it anymore and then whatever the 10:24 one thing you need to focus on to move 10:26 your business forward is break it down 10:28 into it components if needed you know 10:31 sometimes that one thing is a bigger 10:32 sort of project with multiple parts and 10:34 if it is schedule each part of that one 10:37 thing into a certain day so you can 10:39 focus on doing it each day and in turn 10:40 moving toward your goals of course 10:43 sometimes it is a single task and in 10:44 that case just plan to get it done on 10:46 Monday now that is a quick overview of 10:49 how to implement your weekly review so 10:51 that you can actually make progress 10:53 because how can you expect anything to 10:55 change if you don't first identify what 10:57 needs changed and make the damn change 10:59 but if you want a deeper dive into the 11:01 intricacies of scheduling for mental 11:03 performance productivity and progress 11:06 check out this video right night
