My Productivity System
Core Components
- Calendar, Task Manager, Notes App: Use a combination of a calendar app (e.g., Google Calendar, Outlook, Apple Calendar), a task manager (e.g., TickTick, Todoist, Microsoft To Do, Apple Reminders), and a notes app (e.g., Mem, Notion, Obsidian, RemNote, Amplenote, Google Drive). See Productivity System.
- CODE (Capture, Organize, Distill, Express): A system for processing information. See Productivity System.
- Core Systems (Cal Newport): Incorporate daily/weekly planning, GTD task capture, deep work rituals, exercise, and systems for ideas. See Core Systems.
Task Management & Prioritization
- Ivy Lee Method: At the end of each day, write down the six most important things to do tomorrow, prioritize them, and focus on the first one until it's done. Carry over unfinished tasks. See 04 Clippings/The Ultimate Productivity System.
- 2+8 Prioritization: Reduce tasks to the most critical ones.
- 3x5 Notecard: Each evening, write down 3-5 high-impact to-dos for the next day. Use the back for minor tasks. See Here's a simple to-do list trick anyone can use.
- Action Method: Break down everything into projects with Action Steps, References, and Backburner Items. See The Action Method.
Time Management & Focus
- Time Blocking: Schedule blocks of time for specific activities. See 04 Clippings/Readwise/Articles/Carl Pullein - Time and Priorities.md.
- "Opt-Out" Approach: When identifying a high-priority task, schedule it for a specific time. See 4 Steps to Hyperfocus Productivity System.
- Protected Time: Keep mornings free from calls for uninterrupted work.
- Weekly Templates (Cal Newport): Use weekly templates with protected time, daily themes, rules, and autopilot scheduling. See The Weekly Productivity Template To Achieve More, 02 Notes/Weekly Template.
- Slow Productivity (Cal Newport): Do fewer things, work at a natural pace, obsess over quality. See 04 Clippings/Readwise/Books/Cal Newport - Slow Productivity.md.
Key Principles
- Important vs. Urgent: Focus on important, not urgent, tasks. See 04 Clippings/Readwise/Articles/Sahil Bloom's Curiosity Chronicle - The Ultimate Productivity Tool.md.
- Eliminate Distractions: Remove things that prevent you from achieving goals. See 4 Steps to Hyperfocus Productivity System.
